Johnny Appleseed

We had a visit from Johnny Appleseed on Friday. The real Johnny Appleseed!!

He told us all about himself and we sang songs about apples.

He impressed us all with his ability to bob for apples in a big red bucket! Before he started, each class guesstimated how long we thought it would take him to pick up all 6 apples with his mouth.

Here is Johnny bobbing for apples!

Chazz and His Musical Toys

The musical vibrating ladybug.

Chazz can activate the ladybug independently by using a switch, a form of adaptive technology.

He has begun to enjoy the vibrating koosh ball a lot more.

We introduced two new musical toys, the leopard that sings "WILD THING" and the Hip Hop Bear that sings "JINGLE BELLS."

Chazz is always rocking out!!!

Role Play

Flute Soup

Madison would like to share with you her recipe for FLUTE SOUP

Madison gave Miss Katherine a demonstration of her cooking skills.

The most important ingredient in the soup is a large banana.

Spaghetti is also given credit for making the soup super-yummy.

She checked her recipe which happened to be posted on our wall.

She double checked her ingredients on the Braille menu from McDonalds.

The complete recipe is here:
FLUTE SOUP
bananas
water
strawberries
corn
eggs
spaghetti

This friend was upset that he got pizza instead of soup.

He changed his mind when I told him what was actually in the soup.

Let us know if you serve FLUTE SOUP at your next dinner party.

Compliments of Chef Maddie!

Art with Ms Laurie

This is Ms Laurie. She visits us every Friday morning at 8:30.
It is a great way to end the week!

Our first project this year was to make pinch pots out of clay.
To learn more about pinch pots, click here

We started with plain clay.

We pushed our thumbs in the middle to start forming a pot.

Then we pinched in the sides of the pot to form the top.

Ms Laurie carved our names into the bottoms of the pots and fired them in the kiln.

The next week she brought them back and we glazed them.

Ms Laurie took them with her again to fire in the kiln one last time.
We can't wait to see the finished products!

Last year at our first annual GALA, Oh the Places You'll Go, pinch pots made
by students were available in the silent auction. They were a big hit!
If you are interested in buying one of these one-of-a-kind works of art, please call the school.

If you would like to learn more about Ms Laurie and her own artwork, visit her school system webpage here.
